Finish Processing
All films and photos deteriorate over time, colours change and damage occurs. Old films and slides tend to lighten (or darken depending on the film type) and can begin to attract mould growth which feeds on the chemicals. The film surfaces scratch very easily and attract fine particles of dust and dirt, so no matter how carefully you have stored your films there will likely be imperfections on the surface. Removal of these imperfections is also part of the finishing process.
Finish processing, either automatic or manually by hand, is an essential part of restoring the images back to their original state, or in some cases better than the original.
Colour fixing
Have your films or photo's turned red or blue?
No problem. We can correct the colour cast and restore the colours on films, slides and photos either using our low cost automatic finishing process, or manually by hand.
Dust and scratch removal
Removing scratches and dust is an essential part of transferring film to digital images.
We use automated software and manual techniques to remove the dust and scratches from your images.
Red-eye removal
Red-eye occurs in certain conditions when a built-in camera flash is used.
All of our finish processing services remove red-eye by hand absolutely free.
Limitations
There are limits to what our finish processing services can achieve. Results vary depending on the quality of the original film being transferred and the following should be taken into consideration.
- High ISO/ASA film will naturally lead to very grainy images, although we can use filters to soften the grain it will likely remain on the transferred image
- Low quality film, such as 110, or images taken with low quality camera equipment will likely lead to poorer image transfers
- Any major damage such as water, mould or missing areas of film or photos, will be visible on the transferred image. Only our dedicated photo restoration service will attempt to repair such images
- Poor focusing or camera shake which has resulted in blurred images cannot be fixed.
- Very dark images are likely to be dark transfers. We can boost the overall contrast levels a little, though we cannot generally account for the wrong exposure settings when the original image was taken.
