Scanning Resolutions

The following tables show the average values of the expected image sizes after digital transfer, slight differences may occur between different slide mount and film vendors. The highlighted rows denote our standard scanning resolutions.

Print sizes explained

300DPI is the standard printing resolution which is designed for close up viewing and inspection.
We have also included a lower resolution of 150DPI which is designed for distance viewing.

For example, If you are hanging a large print or canvas on the wall then 150DPI should be sufficient. You would only notice slight blurriness or jagged edges upon very close inspection.

110 / 16mm "Instamatic" format

Each filmstrip contains up to 6 frames at 13mm x 17mm each. They are around a quarter of the size of a standard 35mm frame, therefore resulting in a smaller digital image.

They are sometimes mounted in 110 sub miniature slide holders.

Due to their small size 110 film is scanned at 4000DPI in order to produce a usable image size.
